Stories for jumping!

STORIES AND COMICS

Here I attach my storyjumper comic and my reflection. I hope you enjoy it!

Book titled 'A story about what Henry and Cindy can do'Read this book made on StoryJumper
We were working on ‘can structures’, so Storyjumper was an opportunity to implement what the children learnt until now, including the structures we studied before.

As I couldn’t do it last week in school, the way I will work this will be the following:
I will do 4 groups with 5 children. First of all they will have to work on paper, in order to make a draft about the story. But, previous to do it, I will show them an example of the final task I’ve done (in paper and on line).
As I know they will get excited about the tool, I will show them how to use it and later they can experiment with it in their laptops individually.

First all of I set the rules in the group and the roles.

After, I will give them a whorksheet where they have the 5 scenes of the story. In this draft is included the title and the rectangles for the scenes.

1st STEP: Create a storyboard

  • ·    Think about your story and characters (people, animals…)
  • ·    Write a title for the story
  • ·    Summarize your story in 5 scenes
  • ·    Write what happening in each one

2nd STEP: Decide and create the characters

3rd STEP: Decide and decorate the scenery

The objectives for this activity will be the following and I explain how they will reach them:

a.     Write the scenes using the structures learnt. I will give an example of the final task and I will give them a checklist with the structures that they have to use in the story. All groups will have the checklist and the secretary will be in charge of putting a tick when they use it.
b.     Use the vocabulary learnt in the last two units. I will give them a worksheet with the vocabulary they can use, but they can add more in order to be free to create their own story and topic. They will have to write in turns the dialogues in the bubbles.
c.     Know how to use the new tool. I will teach them how to use the tool. I will record the tutorial and I will upload to the classroom blog in order they can watch at home. I will write in the checklist the things they have to include in the story such as: bubbles, voice, search on Google at least 2 pictures…
d.     Interact themselves recording the dialogues for the story. They will have to interact and record the audios for each scene.

I think the use of this tool is a powerful way to activate motivation, creativity and imagination. They are very expressive and when I give them the opportunity to investigate and apply new things they show very happy and focus.

I think my students will enjoy most about the use of the tool by themselves and how to create the text for the story, but I think the process of recording the voice will be the best for them! Perhaps, the learning of how the works could be the more demanding for them.
I am totally sure I will have to adapt the sessions, because explain them how the tool works is not going to be easy, above all for some of them who are not used to work and design a story with the laptops.
How were the finished projects shared with the rest of the class? As a final task, they will have to introduce the story to the rest of the class.

Regarding to co-evaluation, during the presentation, each group will have a rubric and they will have to evaluate with faces if the groups have the information needed.

At the end of the activity, they will share their feelings and opinion about the task.
